Saul, before him name change to Paul, na serious man o. E no be anyhow man. This Saul we dey talk about na proper Jew, e go school well-well, e sabi the Law of Moses like say na him write am. People respect am, elders dey hail am. But na so e carry head enter wahala, because with all the book wey e read, e no know Jesus. Instead, e begin fight the followers of Christ.

This Saul no just fight Christians from far, e dey go from one village to another, from one town to another — Galilee, Samaria, Jerusalem — just to hunt Christians like antelope. Once he jam you say you be Christian, e go carry you go court, dem go jail you, and sometimes, people go die for the case. Saul happy as kings and leaders dey clap for am. The more people clap for am, the more e do am. In fact, he believe say na God work e dey do.

One day like that, the man say e wan go Damascus. E no just wan go there for waka, o. He go meet chief priest wey be oga for temple and collect letter say make dem permit am to arrest all Christians for that area. He no send whether na man, woman or even small pikin. Once you believe in Jesus, Saul dey ready to put chain for your hand.

As he dey go Damascus with soldiers behind am, my pikin, wahala jam am. Na big light from heaven come shine for road, bright pass midday sun. As the light hit am, na so the man fall from horse like dry mango. Then one voice begin talk from the light. E say, “Saul, Saul! Why you dey persecute me?” Saul fear catch am. E tremble. E ask, “Who you be, Lord?” The voice reply, “Na me be Jesus, the one you dey fight against.”

Omo, fear catch Saul. E shock. E begin sweat for body. From that moment, the light blind am — e no see road again. Dem soldiers wey follow am confuse. Dem hear voice, but dem no see anybody. Na so dem carry Saul, wey don blind, go Damascus like small pikin.

For three days, Saul no eat, no drink, he just dey pray. He dey inside one small room dey beg God. Meanwhile, God show one Christian brother for that town, wey him name na Ananias, say make e go meet Saul pray for am. Ananias shock say, “Oga, this man don kill plenty of your children o. Na me you wan send go meet am?” But God tell am, “Go. I don choose am. I go use am scatter my gospel for kings, nations and even Israel.”

Ananias obey. E go house where Saul dey. As e enter, he call am “Brother Saul.” See love! The same man wey wan kill Christians, now Christians dey call am brother. Ananias pray for am, and na so something like scale fall from Saul eye. Baba begin see again! From that day, Saul life change forever. E become Paul.

From that moment, Paul no look back. He start to preach the same Jesus wey he dey fight before. Na him go from town to town, river to river, bush to bush, dey preach say Jesus na the true Messiah. Dem beat am, stone am, jail am, but e no stop. He write letters wey today we dey read inside Bible — Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, and many more.

Paul waka reach places like Ephesus, Thessalonica, Corinth, Rome — even cross sea just to tell people about Jesus. Na him preach say salvation no be only for Jews, but for everybody — black, white, poor, rich, fishermen, kings, women and men. As e dey preach, God use am do miracles too. One time, person wey sick just touch cloth wey Paul use, the sickness disappear. Another time, one boy fall from upstairs during Paul preaching — the boy die. Paul go pray, the boy wake up!

But Paul own no easy o. E suffer. Dem flog am. E nearly drown for sea. E sleep inside prison many times. But e no stop, because e know say the same Jesus wey save am go keep am.

One thing wey sweet for Paul life be say, the same man wey dey kill Christians before, now na him dey raise Christians. People wey see am before no believe say na the same person. From killer to preacher. From persecutor to apostle.

So you see, my pikin, no matter how your past be, God fit use you. No write yourself off. If God fit use Saul — the same man wey scatter church — to build church, God fit use you too. Your story never end. Na only God get the final say.
