The LNER website stated, "Emergency services are taking care of an issue between Stevenage and Peterborough."
All rail lines have shut down while officials address the problem.
"Trains running on these routes might face delays of up to 60 minutes or changes to their schedules.
"We expect major disruptions to continue until the day ends," the announcement said.
