TOP NEWS: The enormous AI data centre in Cheyenne will consume more electricity than all of the homes in Wyoming put together.
Cheyenne, Wyoming (AP) — According to the mayor of the city, an artificial intelligence data centre that would consume more electricity than all of Wyoming's homes combined before growing to up to five times that size will soon be constructed close to Cheyenne. It's revolutionary. "It's enormous," Mayor Patrick Collins declared on Monday. Wyoming's capital has developed into a centre of computing power thanks to its cool climate, which helps keep computer temperatures low, and its plentiful supply of affordable electricity from a leading energy-producing state. Since 2012, Microsoft data centres have been located in the city. Collins stated that the $800 million data centre that Facebook parent company Meta Platforms announced last year is almost finished.
According to a joint company statement, the newest data centre, which is a collaboration between regional energy infrastructure provider Tallgrass and AI data centre developer Crusoe, would start at 1.8 gigawatts of electricity and scale to 10 gigawatts.
