In a recent interview, the US homeland security secretary expressed her displeasure with South Park's satirical portrayal of Kristi Noem as having had a botched cosmetic procedure and shooting dogs.

A little over a year after revealing in a memoir that she had shot and killed her family's dog on a farm, Noem said on Thursday's episode of the Glenn Beck Program podcast, "It's so lazy to just constantly make fun of women for how they look." "They are free to criticize my work if they so choose. They pick on something trivial like that, but it's obvious they can't.

A cartoon depiction of Noem with a lot of makeup and a melting face that slid off her head from too much Botox was shown in the South Park episode that made fun of her on Wednesday. On an instructional video used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), which falls under her jurisdiction, and during an agency raid that reminded viewers of the administration's plans to deport large numbers of immigrants, her on-screen persona was also seen shooting and killing dogs.

South Park's portrayal of Noem clearly hinted at the publicity she has pursued by posing for pictures at Ice raids and in front of a crowded cell at the infamous Cecot prison in El Salvador, where immigrants have been deported by the Trump administration. Additionally, it capitalized on the controversy that Noem sparked with her May 2024 autobiography No Going Back, in which she described how she shot her family's dog Cricket to death after the 14-month-old wire-haired pointer destroyed a pheasant hunt and killed a neighbor's chickens.

In the book, Noem also described how she gave an unruly, uncastrated goat the same fate on her family's farm. The governor of South Dakota at the time, Noem, defended her actions by claiming that they were typical of the "tough decisions" that real politicians had to make. However, according to at least one survey, over 80% of Americans disapproved of Noem's admissions. Noem was a potential candidate for the Republican vice presidential nomination in November. Trump and JD Vance ultimately prevailed in the election, and Noem was named secretary of homeland security.

The 27th season of the irreverent, vulgar, animated Comedy Central program has made fun of the Trump administration on several occasions, including Wednesday's episode. The show's billion-dollar deal with Paramount, which in July was approved by the Trump administration for a profitable merger with Skydance Media, coincided with the season's premiere.

Stephen Colbert's Late Show was later cancelled by Paramount's CBS, soon after the host criticized the parent company for settling a lawsuit with Trump over an interview he didn't like with Kamala Harris, his opponent in the 2024 election. Regarding South Park, the Trump administration has given conflicting signals. The show "hasn't been relevant for over 20 years," according to a White House statement. Additionally, Noem stated in her interview on Beck's podcast that she was "going over budget numbers" at work and had not watched the previous day's episode.

Nevertheless, the vice president posted on social media after Wednesday's South Park episode featured a tiny cartoon of Vance lubricating Satan's butt for Trump: "Well, I've finally made it."

Meanwhile, Noem's department promoted Ice job openings with $50,000 signing bonuses on social media using a screenshot ahead of Wednesday's South Park episode. "Wait so we ARE relevant?" was the show's response to the Homeland Security Department.
